Prospect Weekly: All the Defenseman Scoring

Literally.

It’s been a very long week and much has changed over the course of it. Canada’s World Junior selection camp was underway but had to take an unfortunate pause after Covid entered their protective environment. Protocols will be much tighter in the WJC bubble in Edmonton which they must report to on December 13th.

In the two games Justin Barron participated in he scored what could perhaps become a statement goal if he makes the squad with this great read and jump into the play.

Bowen Byram didn’t score himself but had been making plays all over the ice and finally one got converted for a goal. He crafted another assist 30 seconds later and looked basically dominant with the puck over the course of the two-game weekend.

*

Danila Zhuravlyov added his second goal of the season when he too jumped into the play. Although the puck eventually bounces off an opponent into the goal it was our guy who got the play started.

*

Nicky Leivermann has enjoyed a strong start to the young NCAA season and was rewarded with his first goal of the campaign on a nice wrist shot.

*

Not to be outdone by his teammate, Nate Clurman scored his first NCAA goal (in three seasons) in the same game on a point shot from the blue line.

*

Finally, Drew Helleson got on the board and was named Hockey East defenseman of the week (with two teams playing) as he converted his own score.
