Prospect Weekly: Beaudin’s Revenge

Trust from the coaching staff is a wonderful thing as JC Beaudin has been playing as one of the top centers for the Colorado Eagles and that move has been paying dividends as Beaudin cashed in with a five point weekend. On Friday Beaudin was named the first star in Colorado’s 6-2 win over the Ontario Reign with two highlight reel top shelf goals, one of which seen below. Also, shoutout to Mason Geertsen who had a three point night including an assist on this goal.

On Saturday Beaudin put in another remarkable performance which earned him second star honors with a goal and two assists in Colorado’s 5-3 win in the much tougher rematch. It is fantastic to see the renaissance of a player who was buried by the organization all last season.

Ty Lewis scored his first professional goal as seen below to give the Eagles the 2-0 lead in Saturday’s win over Ontario. He was dangerous all night and this was one of the many scoring chances he had. Lewis plays in all situations for the Eagles and is enjoying a nice start to his pro career.

Martin Kaut was waiting for the perfect time to score his first professional goal (in North America) as well and he made no mistake on a great shot as seen below less than a minute after Ontario tied the game in the third period. He has been playing smart defense and making plays but it was great to see Kaut’s hard work rewarded in the best moment possible.

Cam Morrison has had a hot start to his junior year with four points in four games, capped off by a three point performance in Notre Dame’s 4-1 win over Omaha including this goal seen below where he’s able to show off his nice shot. He will need to keep it going as one of the leaders in the team and to get some pro attention at the end of the season.

Brandon Saigeon climbed to the top the OHL scoring leaderboard during the week thanks to a five point week and currently sits sixth with 22 points in 13 games. The newly named alternate captain hit the ground running on his season ever since he returned from Colorado and has only gone two games without registering a point. His best effort was a three assist night plus a shootout goal as Hamilton defeated Owen Sound 7-6 in the shootout. He also scored a power play goal as seen below as Hamilton fell 7-5 in Sudbury.

Last but not least, Cale Makar enjoyed another four point weekend in a split for UMass with the top ranked team in the country, Ohio State. He now sits on top of Hockey East scoring with eight points in four games, which is also good for a share of fourth in all of NCAA scoring. Makar’s confidence is rolling and he’s been put in a much better position to use his dynamic talents in what should be a very successful sophomore campaign for him. Makar also was named Hockey East player of the week for the second straight week.
