Cut by Cut: 29 remain
Another large cut was announced by the Colorado Avalanche following their fourth preseason game.

Four young prospect forwards head north to Loveland in order to prepare for Colorado Eagles camp. The trio of Oskar Olausson, Jean-Luc Foudy and Alex Beaucage were expected early cuts as they still have more time, perhaps years, left in the AHL ahead of them. Sampo Ranta was a bit of a surprise as he actually made the opening night roster last year but as he transitions to role of forechecker he’s going to have to do something extraordinary to get the attention of the organization again.
Goaltender Jonas Johansson has been claimed, again, on waivers this time by the Arizona Coyotes and will get another chance at a NHL job. He might return eventually.
Later in the day two more cuts were added to the list. One in goaltender Justus Annunen who becomes the organization’s third goalie for now and AHL contract Mitch Vande Sompel who for some reason wasn’t included in the earlier list.
With only 29 remaining players including those injured folks such as Gabe Landeskog and Darren Helm the Avalanche are already pretty close to their opening night roster. What happens to the likes of Martin Kaut, Shane Bowers and Mikhail Maltsev, who all now require waivers, remains to be seen.
