Cale Makar and Conor Timmins invited to Canada’s World Junior camp

Hockey Canada has announced their camp roster in advance of the World Junior Championship and both Avalanche prospect defensemen Cale Makar and Conor Timmins were named to the preliminary roster.

Makar has always been a heavy favorite to make Team Canada especially with his draft pedigree but Timmins’ performance in the Canada Russia series and also his recent play for the dominant Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds seems to have placed him in the favorite category as well. Good camps from both could lead to a third of Canada’s blueline comprised of Avalanche property, wouldn’t that be something?

The camp begins on December 12th in Ontario with a handful of exhibition games as they ramp up to the tournament getting underway on December 26th when Canada drops the puck against Finland. Ten defensemen were invited to the camp and presumably three cuts will be made for that position before the tournament kicks off.

Also of note, it’s unfortunate that Igor Shyvryov was not named to Russia’s camp roster. The Russians always have a lot of talent to choose from but it’s too bad especially after Shyvryov’s performance in the Four Nations tournament.  At least there won’t be any split rooting interests this year.
