Prospect Weekly: Crunch Time

Cale Makar finished his regular season with a bang and with his most dramatic collegiate moment yet. After UMass had just given up the tying score with under two minutes left, Makar made his signature move at the blue line as seen below and rifled home a shot which gave UMass the 3-2 victory over UConn. This was a crucial win for UMass to secure enough points to host an opening round match in the conference tournament. Makar now has 4 goals and 18 points this season.

Cam Morrison showed off his shot as seen below and scored two goals in Notre Dame’s 6-3 win over Michigan State. Morrison now has 7 goals and 20 points this season.

Denis Smirnov has been cold for a few weekends but finished with a goal as seen below and an assist in a big 5-2 win over Minnesota. He now has 14 goals and 25 points on the year.

Ty Lewis returned after missing two games from a very dirty and ugly elbow to the head delivered by Jett Woo, which earned a three game suspension. Lewis didn’t miss a beat by scoring a fantastic shorthanded goal as seen below and added an empty net goal for good measure in Brandon’s much needed 6-3 win over Calgary. The next game Lewis scored two goals again in Brandon’s 6-2 loss to Prince Albert, which means Lewis deposited four of the last five goals Brandon scored. Lewis now has 36 goals and 86 points on the season.

Playoffs!

The conference portion of the NCAA post-season begins this weekend, all in best of three series. Makar and UMass will host Vermont plus Bowers and BU gets a bye and will host UConn the following weekend in the Hockey East tournament.
