Avalanche cut three more from camp
This morning the Avalanche announced they have cut three more players from camp in defensemen Nicolas Meloche and Gage Ausmus as they were sent to San Antonio and forward Ty Lewis back to Brandon in the WHL.
The surprise here is Meloche. He had a very good camp and a less than exciting game but in a night where there were few good performances it seems that shouldn’t have ended camp for him.
Ausmus was indicated to head to San Antonio on a tryout, which makes sense since he has an ECHL contract with the Colorado Eagles. Curious that Ben Storm wasn’t indicated that his assignment to San Antonio as a tryout.
Most notable that Travis Barron and Conor Timmins were not among the cuts this round as if they were going to make the start of their OHL seasons the time to head back would have been now.
Avalache camp roster stands at 48 so more cuts remain in the near future.
And that ends the Meloche experience for 2017.
The more I think about it they did it to send a message to Nic. The first and only NHL contracted player cut.
What do you think that message is?
