Prospect Weekly: New Plans in Motion
Big news for the week was revealed when Hockey Canada released their roster and details for the month long World Junior Championship selection camp. On November 16th the camp will begin for all invitees, an initial cut will occur around November 24th and then the rest of the group will remain until travel to Edmonton on December 13th. Bowen Byram, Alex Newhook and Justin Barron we’re named to the 47 man roster with 25 players hoping to make the cut. Each has a decent shot at making the squad with Byram a lock as a returning gold medalist and should also be part of the leadership group.

Making his debut a new Avalanche prospect and in the 2020-21 season is Justin Barron. He returned to the lineup just a week ago after recovering from a procedure to hopefully permanently correct the blood clot issue in his shoulder. He did not get a point on the nifty net drive play seen below but now has three assists in three games thus far.

Nikolai Kovalenko has been productive lately since his return including this goal seen below on a great redirect tip play. He now has four points in 11 games for Lokomotiv in now his third KHL season.

Martin Kaut is on the move again as he arrives in Sweden and will now play for MODO in the Allsvenskan. After Pardubice and the Czech Extraliga were forced to go on pause for at least a month it became urgent that Kaut get in games prior to returning to Colorado. The same situation is present for him with this new team in that he’s free to return to the Avalanche whenever they begin training camp preparations.

Nate Clurman was recently named captain of Norte Dame heading into his junior season with the program. There are no official game dates just yet for the Fighting Irish but the expectation still is something will kick off before the end of the calendar year.
