Who Wore it Best: Number 58

The number 58 has only been worn by one player in the time the franchise has been in Colorado. Until 58 gets worn again, it will be the legacy of the designated face puncher of the 2012-2014 era Avalanche, Patrick Bordeleau

Patrick Bordeleau (2012-2014)

As a 4th round pick by the Minnesota Wild, Bordeleau worked hard as an enforcer but never got the chance to sign a contract with the team that drafted him. Bordeleau struggled to get a contract anywhere before settling for the ECHL. He played there for a couple years getting a couple stints in the AHL. In 2009 he finally got his chance to be a mainstay as an enforcer in the AHL when the Lake Erie Monsters gave him a shot. He was a fan favorite there and even caught the eye of the Avalanche front office. They gave him his first NHL contract, a one year, two way contract in 2011. He played in Lake Erie for that season and got another one year contract, but this time, he would be brought up to the NHL to play on the 4th line with NHL fan favorite enforcer Cody McLeod and Marc-Andre Cliche. He again made an impression in the lockout season and was offered a 3 year deal by the Avalanche and played another year and a full 82 games (surprising for any enforcer honestly) where he tallied 11 points. He played one more NHL game the next season before being sent down to the AHL (San Antonio Rampage this time). Bordeleau’s enforcer career finally caught up to him and the rest of his career was hampered by injuries that took him out of a number of games throughout the following two seasons under contract with the Avs. Bordeleau may not have been the fanciest or flashiest player while he was here, but he is sure remembered by a lot of Avs fans and is still beloved by a lot of Lake Erie Monsters fans from his time with them. Fun fact: I was commented on twitter that Sgarbossa was never given a real chance with the Avs and I was attacked by the apparently existence Bordy twitter mob telling me that Bordeleau would have more points that Sgarbossa in the NHL. Currently, that remains to be true.
