Prospect Weekly: New Heights

Ty Lewis lighting the lamp is nothing new but a beauty like this has to be shared. It tied the game late against rival Regina in an eventual 4-3 loss and wasn’t even Lewis’ most exciting goal of the week. The next game he scored the overtime winner in a 3-2 victory over Swift Current to snap Brandon’s four game losing streak. Then to cap off the week Lewis scored the first goal and then another as the eventual game winning goal to take the 5-3 win over Saskatoon. Lewis added an assist as well in this five point week and now sits at 66 points, which is good for 5th in WHL scoring.

Travis Barron got his team back in the win column, which they desperately needed as the Ottawa 67s defeated Peterborough 3-2 with this slick passing play which got the 67s on the board first. Ottawa made a trade earlier in the week to shore up some depth as they hope to make the playoffs in the OHL’s Eastern Conference.

Hockey is back in session for the NCAA and Cam Morrison gets a helper on this power play goal from his office right in front of the net. Notre Dame went on to defeat Michigan 2-1 and continue their now 15 game winning streak.

It is trading season all across the CHL and the deadline in the WHL has seen Josh Anderson change addresses from the rebuilding Prince George Cougars to the Swift Current Broncos. The price was fairly steep, two first round selections in upcoming WHL Bantam drafts, and Anderson will join a team who has championship aspirations. The Broncos are in a division with Ty Lewis’ Wheat Kings and Nick Henry’s Pats so there’s going to be a lot more Avs prospects head to head matchups in the second half of the season and playoffs.
