Prospect Weekly: Flying High

In his fourth game with the Colorado Eagles, Nicolas Meloche notched his first goal for the team, which tied the game and the Eagles eventually won 4-3 in a shootout over the Kansas City Mavericks. Each game Meloche has become more comfortable in his new surroundings and has been very solid defensively but in this contest Meloche really turned up the offense. He’s trying everything he can with the puck including end to end rushes, dangles, pinching in the offensive zone and taking shots. He registered three shots on goal in each of his last two contests. It would be fantastic if this level of offensive confidence translated whenever he goes back to San Antonio. The big picture of Meloche’s move to the Eagles was discussed HERE.

Julien Nantel notched his sixth goal of the season in the Rampage’s 2-1 shootout victory over Rockford on Friday night. He’s been playing hard and generating offense for the Rampage all year. His game looks to be maturing and he’s one of the better forwards on a nightly basis in San Antonio. Hopefully the Avs’ staff has taken notice.

Another who is playing well is Dominic Toninato, who quietly goes about his business and is leaned on defensively but still manages to put points on the board with. Below is his incredible shorthanded effort in a 4-2 victory over Cleveland on Thursday evening.

AJ Greer continues to score goals in San Antonio and his play with the puck has really picked up in recent weeks. There’s not much more for him to prove until he gets another shot in the NHL.

Junior and college teams take the next week off for holiday break but we’ll have you covered through all the World Junior Championship festivities plus next week’s special edition of the prospect weekly, which will review their seasons thus far.
