Injuries Pile Up, Rampage & Eagles Keep Winning
The Avs dropped a gruesome game to Vegas last night 7-0 but the Rampage and Eagles both continued their winning streaks. All 3 are back in action again tonight.
Avs lose big
The Avs were just cruising along dominating play midway through the 2nd period when Nail Yakupov’s careless play led to a breakaway and a 1-0 VGK lead. Up until then they had been on an 11-3 shot attempt run but that was it for their night. Vegas scored on their next 3 shots to make it 4-0. Without boring you with details the game ended 7-0.
The big takeaway was that Brayden McNabb hit 2 Avs in the head on purpose and knocked them out of the game. Gabe Bourque is now on injured reserve and Alexander Kerfoot’s status is unknown for tonight’s game. Colin Wilson joined Bourque on IR last night as the Avs made a couple callups.
Andrew Agozzino joins the team for the first time since the Spring of 2016. He’s the Rampage’s leading scorer with 2G/6A in 7 games. Miscast as a center in SA, he should be a decent winger for the Avs should they need him to be.
Rocco Grimaldi is 4th on the Rampage with 2G/3A and gets an NHL shot after being cut earlier than expected in training camp.
Rampage win 5th straight
Once again getting outshot badly, San Antonio worked their magic on San Jose and won 3-1. Coach Veilleux wasn’t impressed after the game with the performance but I’m sure he’ll take these lucky wins early in the year. Rocco had a goal and an assist and Aggz had an assist before both were called up to the Avs. Ville Husso had a great night stopping 38/39 before he too was called up to the NHL.
Joe Cannata was called up from the Eagles earlier in the day to step in for Husso while in St Louis.
Brady Shaw was also called from the Eagles after recording an assist in Loveland last night.
Eagles stay undefeated
Colorado is now 6-0 after defeating the Rapid City Rush 5-4 last night. J-C Beaudin recorded his 4th & 5th assists of the year and was named 2nd star of the game. Shawn St-Amant made his regular season debut and promptly scored the game-winning goal. He was also honored pre-game at center ice with his Kelly Cup ring.
