Prospect Weekly: Justice Served

One night in Texas AHL prospect nirvana was achieved in which one highlight clip would not do justice. Five gorgeous goals on the board for the Colorado Eagles all scored by Avalanche prospects who won the game 5-4 in overtime. Nick Henry tallied the first strike, Jean-Luc Foudy scored his first North American professional goal, and Shane Bowers got in on the action as well. Then Foudy converted again with 11 seconds remaining to send the game to overtime in which Martin Kaut scored his first of the year to win the game. Full highlights below.

Sampo Ranta continued his hero tour in the Big 10 championship semi-finals as he scored the game-tying goal to send Minnesota into overtime. They eventually prevailed and also held on to take the conference crown. Ranta’s next game is Saturday in Loveland for game one of the NCAA regional against Tyler Weiss and Omaha.

It was a big week for Ranta who was also named to the first All-Big 10 team.

Alex Newhook picked a nice time to have his breakout game of the season but unfortunately despite a five point effort Boston College fell in double overtime in the Hockey East semi-finals. Here on his second goal of the evening he finds space in the slot and makes no mistake. Newhook, Drew Helleson and Colby Ambrosio also play on Dunday in their NCAA regional surprisingly against Notre Dame in a prospect showdown versus Ryder Rolston, Nicky Leivermann and Nate Clurman.

Sasha Mutala is back in the WHL with the Tri-City Americans and wasted no time in getting on the board with this power play tally in his first game of the truncated junior season.
