Prospect Weekly: Battling Adversity

Matt Stienburg is the leading goal scorer with seven for the West Kelowna Warriors through 12 games of their preseason tournament. However in the last game prior to the tournament semi-finals Stienburg injured his ankle blocking a shot and the team announced he will miss the remainder of 2020. This injury could have effectively ended his stint in the BCHL but the Ivy League just announced there won’t be any winter sports (hockey) this season. So perhaps Stienburg will continue to play for the Warriors once he is healed up.

Martin Kaut is at it again with another goal in his latest game for MODO. As seen below this was another rebound stuff near the goal crease. Kaut added six shots on goal and led the team in ice time among the forwards. He shouldn’t be anything but ready for the NHL when the time comes.

Daniil Zhuravlyov is on the board with his first goal of the season in the KHL on this really slick jump up into the play recognition and then sweet finish. He’s generally playing a second or third pair role with time on both special teams units.

Sasha Mutala is also on a brief sojourn in the AJHL where he’s showing off his talents in another uniform. Here in the clip below Mutala crafts a smooth fake and pass through a defender’s legs for a goal. His regular season will begin tonight and Mutala should remain with Grande Prairie until the holidays.

Tyler Weiss received some surprising news over the summer but likely answers questions on why he’s never been able to put on weight. Weiss will have to wait just a little while longer for the NCHC hybrid bubble tournament which begins on December 1st.
