Prospect Weekly: No Love

The Colorado Eagles began their week with a pair of mid-week games against San Diego and achieved mixed results. The first night was a tight affair but the Eagles ultimately dropped the contest 2-1. The highlight of the evening was Mason Geertsen scoring his third goal of the season with a rocket of a shot as seen below.

Although in the next evening the Eagles gave up a 4-1 lead in the third period, Nicolas Meloche got to play hero as the Eagles won 5-4 in overtime thanks to Meloche’s sneaky shot as seen below. He is one of the better Eagles in overtime and Meloche also is on a productive streak scoring nine points in his last 11 games up to this point.

For the weekend the Eagles traveled to California to play a Stockton team they don’t have great success against and that trend continued in a 5-2 defeat. The bright side of this game was goal from both Igor Shvyrev and Ty Lewis, the former of which seen below as Shvyrev shows of his hard shot.

The following evening didn’t fare much better as the Eagles fell 6-3 in their final meeting against Stockton. However there were a few nice individual plays in this contest as well. The goal that got the Eagles on the board as seen below started with a great save from Spencer Martin and continued with Travis Barron depositing a rebound off a Ty Lewis shot. Igor Shvyrev would grab two assists in this contest and Martin Kaut scored on the power play as well.

Nick Henry has been plugging away remaining in the top 10 of WHL scoring with 74 points in 57 games. That total includes 21 goals, the most recent of which shown below in a 7-2 win for Lethbridge over Swift Current. Henry shows great hustle and some nice moves on this individual effort.

The weekly Cale Makar Show needs no introduction. In fact it is getting tough to select just one clip. Below is Makar’s 10th goal of the season, all coming at even strength, as he finishes off a two-on-one with his quick release. UMass would defeat Boston College 4-3 on a last minute goal assisted by Makar. He picked up another assist in the contest as well for a three point night and sits at 34 points in 29 games.
